The Client
Securing a Managing Director, Global Infrastructure and Real Assets, for a Global Investment Bank.
The Challenge
Phoenix were mandated by a US investment bank to hire a senior Managing Director with exceptional experience in global infrastructure and real assets. Then mandate for the role was to:
– Expand the banks global coverage across infrastructure asset classes
– Generate stronger boardroom coverage within existing clients
– Expand global footprint of sector
– Add content expertise in the areas of transportation infrastructure and real estate
– Focus on generating deal flow in M&A
Our Approach
The investment banking team at Phoenix conducted a full sweep of the market with a focus on candidates based in London. This sweep concluded in producing a candidate long list of 45 candidates, all with the relevant sector, product and geographical expertise. We took time discussing this list with our client and then whittled this down to a target list of 30 candidates for us to directly approach and assess.
The assessment process that we undertook entailed finding out details about the candidates specific client coverage (both corporate and financial sponsors), annual revenue generation (broken down by product), product experience, and also a recent history of personal financial compensation. During this process which took 3-4 weeks, we kept our client informed by presenting an update document and conducting a video call each week.
Results
After concluding the assessment process, we then presented a shortlist of 3 candidates for an interview with our client. The full interview process took 3 weeks to conclude, whereby the client made an offer of employment to the preferred candidate.
Phoenix were involved at all stages of the interview process and also with the process of financial negotiations on the final offer.
The successful candidate successfully resigned from their current employer and started their new position with our client.
