Fund Services Monthly Briefing: October 2026

The Phoenix Search monthly briefing on the deals, senior leadership moves and market data shaping fund administration, corporate and trust services across the US, UK, Ireland and Europe.

October opened with a $5.1bn fund administration deal and closed with a run of senior appointments in client, product and technology leadership.

In between, a quieter pattern took shape. Software and data companies spent the month acquiring, licensing and integrating their way into the administration layer itself.

Deals and capital events

  • KKR agreed to acquire Gen II Fund Services from Hg, General Atlantic and other minority investors at a total enterprise value of $5.1bn. Gen II serves more than 275 investment managers and administers more than $2tn in assets. Completion is expected in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
  • Bloomberg completed its acquisition of Canoe Intelligence, the AI platform that collects and structures private markets data, as announced on 2 October. Canoe continues to run its existing service as part of Bloomberg.
  • Formidium completed its acquisition of Ci Fund Services S.A. in Luxembourg, announced on 20 October following CSSF approval. Formidium, headquartered in Illinois, describes itself as an AI-native fund administrator with more than $38bn in assets under administration. Ci Fund Services, formerly Alpina Fund Management, was established in 1988.
  • New Private Equity took a significant minority stake in ONE group solutions, the Luxembourg-headquartered third-party ManCo and governance services provider. Founded in 2019, ONE serves more than 200 clients from eight offices.

Leadership moves

We tracked eight external appointments at Director level and above across administrators, corporate and trust providers and fund technology.

  • TMF Group appointed Karan Tewari as Chief Client Officer. He joins the executive committee from Thomson Reuters, where he was General Manager of the North American Corporates Enterprise business.
  • Vistra Fund Solutions appointed Andrew O'Shea as Executive Vice President and Head of Vistra Fund Solutions Europe, based in Ireland. He was previously global head of fund services at TMF Group, and before that spent eight years in senior roles at Intertrust.
  • Citco hired Anne Dolan as global head of SPVs, based in London. She joins from Vistra, where she was executive vice president, global incorporations (reported).
  • Apex Group appointed Olivier Portenseigne as global head of transfer agency products, based in Luxembourg, with a focus on tokenisation. He was previously CEO of FundsDLT, Clearstream's blockchain-based fund distribution and transfer agency platform.
  • Aztec Group appointed Jing Wang as Head of AI to build a new AI technology and enablement team. She was previously Head of AI Products for Chase UK at JPMorgan Chase.
  • Aztec Group also created the role of head of strategic client change and appointed Ruby Paramanathan, who has held senior positions at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, KPMG, PwC and M&G Investments.
  • Ocorian appointed Ryan McGrath to the newly created role of Global Head of Innovation, based in New York. He spent nine years at EY leading transformation and AI deployment in financial services technology consulting.
  • GLAS appointed Sairam Rangachari as its first Chief Product and Technology Officer. He was previously chief product officer and head of AI at Temenos.

Five of the eight were in product, technology, AI, innovation or client change roles, and at least three of those roles were newly created.

Two internal successions at the top of large servicing groups:

  • MUFG Investor Services promoted McAllister Kirschner to Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect. He has been COO since 2018 and succeeds John Sergides.
  • Euroclear named group chief risk officer Guillaume Eliet as CEO of Euroclear Bank from 1 January 2027, subject to regulatory approval, succeeding Peter Sneyers, who retires at the end of 2026. Marie-Anne Haegeman becomes group chief risk officer.

Trend of the month: software becomes the administrator

Three October events made the same move from different directions.

  • A software platform became a regulated administrator. Carta announced on 12 October that the CSSF had authorised it as a specialised professional of the financial sector, covering five functions including registrar agent, domiciliation agent and administrative agent. It can now offer licensed fund administration and transfer agency alongside its software.
  • An AI-native administrator bought a licensed Luxembourg business: Formidium and Ci Fund Services.
  • A data company bought a private markets data platform: Bloomberg and Canoe.

Two of the three ran through Luxembourg, where the fund market is still growing. CSSF figures published on 1 October put the net assets of Luxembourg investment funds at €6,790.7bn at the end of August 2026, up 1.56% on the month and 14.12% over twelve months. Net capital investment contributed €45.9bn of the €104.1bn monthly increase.

Consolidation in administration has largely been led by scale administrators and their private equity owners. In October, the new entrants were software and data companies, and the senior hires across the sector leaned the same way.
