Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Construction Accountant / Controller with a strong background in construction accounting to join our team. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of managing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring the accuracy of job costing, financial reporting, and budgeting. This is an on-site role located near West Nyack, NY, offering the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed job costing reports, ensuring accurate allocation of costs to each project.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts and budgets for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, particularly in relation to construction finance and tax.
  • Oversee cash flow management, including maintaining relationships with banks and lenders.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy in financial records and adherence to company policies.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, ensuring effective collaboration with project managers.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, tax filings, and other reports required by senior management.
  • Utilize construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, or similar) for accurate financial tracking and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on construction or real estate development.
  • Strong knowledge of construction-specific accounting principles, including job costing, WIP (Work in Progress) schedules, and percentage of completion accounting.
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with project managers and senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of New York state tax regulations and compliance related to the construction industry is a plus.
