Our National Office of Down Syndrome Ireland, based in Dublin 12, is now recruiting for a Head of Finance to join our nationwide team. At Down Syndrome Ireland, we have 25 nationwide branches that support our members and their families. Our Team of over 100 passionate individuals is supported by thousands of volunteers who strive to improve the lives of People with Down Syndrome in Ireland by providing a range of vital services and social opportunities.

 

As Head of Finance, you are responsible for the overseeing and management of all finances for Down Syndrome Ireland:

 
  • Leading the Financial Management function for the organisation.

  • Effective management of the day-to-day finance function of the organisation ensuring strong internal controls are in place to safeguard the assets of the organisation.

  • Manage working capital and cash flow.

  • Effective management of the financial performance of the organisation and reporting performance under agreed KPIs to the CEO and Board, highlighting areas for improvement.

  • Ensure financial compliance with all regulatory requirements including Government Department returns, Grant reports, VAT and liabilities returns, RCT, payroll statutory and non-statutory detections.

  • Review of monthly accounts and quarterly management accounts, including cash flow projections for the Board.

  • Report on any budget variances to the Board.

  • Preparation of annual budgets.

  • Lead on and oversee the Annual External Audit.

  • Assist/train budget managers in the budget management process.

  • Develop professional relationships with key partners to assist Down Syndrome Ireland’s performance.

  • Taking part in relevant key sectorial meetings raising Down Syndrome Ireland’s profile.

  • Contribute to the business planning and strategic planning process.

  • Actively contribute at Leadership Team level in developing and delivering organisational strategy and assisting Down Syndrome Ireland deliver on the aims and objectives of the organisation.

  • Supporting the drafting of policies and procedures and ensuring staff have been trained on the Board approved policies and procedures.

  • Ensuring value for money in the organisation.

 

Experience Required:

 
  • Professional Accountancy qualification (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA)

  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience

  • Expertise in Accountancy software

  • Effective communication, presentation and negotiation skills

  • Full clean drivers licence with access to own vehicle

  • Proven experience of leading, developing and motivating team members

  • Experience of working at both a strategic and operational level within an organisation.

  • Experience of funding applications, financial analysis and long-term financial planning.

  • Strong awareness of the regulatory environment in which DSI operates and issues facing the charity sector.

  • Proven ability to build, nurture and maintain relationships.
